garden renovation | Southlands

Tucked in a quiet corner of the city, this sheltered backyard consists of a few oversized flagstones and a discreet pathway. The surrounding planting creates a mantle of greenery that comes alive with a succession of bulbs and perennials: Camassia and Primula, Amsonia and martagon lilies, Anemone and Echinacea, and so on.

“This simple garden offers interest year-round, and has reached a maturity that translates in very little required maintenance.”

The garden as seen before the renovation..

Embracing a gradual, low-impact approach, the transformation involved creating strategic openings in the existing lawn, incorporating yellow rattle to diminish grass growth, and enriching the landscape with delicate flowering perennials and geophytes to ensure a dynamic and evolving visual appeal.
