Balaclava STreet

landscape renovation | kerrisdale

Designed by renowned architect Arthur Erickson, this single-storey, u-shaped house will soon undergo much-needed renovations and upgrades. The owner, an avid gardener, sought first to rejuvenate the garden, enhancing the home’s year-round appeal while honouring the original architectural vision.

The incorporation of a greenhouse on the property seamlessly echoes the ethos of West Coast Modern design.

Beneath decades-old rhododendrons, choice woodland plants kickstart the season, while gravel dwellers bloom all summer long in the sun-drenched entrance beds. Locally quarried sandstone was cut into chunky steps, large slabs and smaller pavers, ushering gardeners and visitors alike throughout the various thematic areas of the garden.

Choice tender plants are dotted around the patio during the summer. They move into the greenhouse as soon as frost sets in.
